New York, New York: Pre-professional Muay Thai League, AFL will make return with event “RISING STARS”


Following a sold out inaugural event in April, AFL makes its way back July 15th.

Familiar faces and new hungry talent will stack the card at RISING STARS, taking place at the 5 Star Banquet Hall, in Long Island City.

Alumni from the previous fight night the athletes include Giovanni Petrillo, Phoebe Liang, Jason Melendez, and Daniel Schaw.


“Win or lose these fighters gave it their all. What we saw that night was killer instincts. We welcome them back into the ring” says Lead Matchmaker, Sean Hinds


From start to finish the fighters, making their promotional debuts in April provide non stop crowd pleasing action. Replays of selected fights at Proving Grounds can be found on AFL YouTube.


When asked what this second event would mean for these rising talents that makes their way back to the ring. Executive Director, Kit Yeung had this to say


“They’ve already proved themselves with how hard they’ve fought. Now we want to see how high they want to go in this sport”, AFL is here to support those pursuits”

Friday, April 22nd, the Inaugural AFL event featured action packed Muay Thai matches all night long.

The original 12-bout card was in high anticipation and it did not disappoint.

In the main event, from Hinds Combat’s Jayh Rodriguez took on Ameer Khattab out of Rami Elite, edging out a victory in a close 3 round match. Despite the loss of the 18-year old, Ameer showed grit and a variety of skills.

“I am thoroughly impressed, with Ameer, the kid is going places and hopefully AFL can help him along the way” says Justin Kwan, Managing Director of AFL

The youngest athlete to step into the arena, goes to Sitan Gym’s Colin Sampilo, who at 11-year old bested his opponent via referee stoppage.

Other highlights include a TKO win by Daniel Schaw and performances between Isabelle Du Plessis out of Two Bridges and Fiona Ho of Kings Williamsburg, who proved themselves to be “co-main event material” after the original scheduled bout between Terry Cho and Daniel Ferrer was canceled for medical reasons.

Lead Matchmaker, Sean Hinds says “There was no one who fought tonight that didn’t bring it. We’re proud, and will look ahead to next matchups and AFL rankings”
